" Hmm, that reminds me of a New York Beauty. I love the New York Beauty. I should really make that Pat Sloan quilt that is in my binder."
(Ladies, you know the binder I'm talking about. The one that has all the quilt patterns you've culled from years of quilting magazines and you have sworn you will make all of them before you leave God's green earth!)
"I could make each quarter section to represent each of the seasons. I have that really great hand dyed fabric for spring, oh and that great snow fabric for winter. Now, what will I use for Fall?. I'd have to enlarge the pattern though to make it wall hanging size. Yeah, that'll work!".
And without touching any fabric or taking a single stitch, I made a quilt! And, you know, it was pretty satisfying! Seww, you see, you do have time to quilt even in December. You just do it in your head!
Oh, and here is a picture of the quilt I was thinking about from McCall's Quilting, October, 2006.
Have a quilty day!

I quilt in my head all time, especially when I am in the car. but if I don't get it written down within an hour, it is gone. Poof!
You crack me up - I take it one step further (at least I used to take it one step further) & pull the fabrics (or buy them) for said quilt...
Oh & I will NEVER do a NYB quilt.
I have that quilt article in my to do file too!
Yesterday I spent way too much time playing in the quilt index so I even dreamt of quilts...if you finish one in your dreams does that count?!
The best part of making 'head quilts' is you never had a stack of UFO's!
I guess we all do this. It's a good thing. Some of them probably really happen, and if not, as you say, it's satisfying.
And once I get the design down, then I don't make the quilt. After all, I have already made it haven't I?
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does this!
The quilts in my head never turn out like the quilts on fabric. So much fun to dream, and so many different possibilities. In my head, I can make all of the combinations!
